English-language degrees worldwide what are your options?

010 was not the easiest year for prospective undergraduate students in the UK. First a supply and demand crisis meant that up to 200,000 school leavers missed out on a university place. Now, from 2012 students in England are facing the prospect that university degrees could cost as much as £9,000 per year. Whereas places in the UK are getting harder and more expensive to come by, the good news is that international study is becoming an ever more viable and attractive option for students from the UK. There are a growing number of nations opening their doors to international students by offering courses taught in English, and as tuition fees in the UK threaten to rise, study abroad is becoming an ever more economically viable alternative.


UK international campuses


They are a relatively new phenomenon, but in recent years several UK universities have opened international campuses around the globe. Here you can receive the same qualification as you would at home – and study in English – but also gain language skills and life experience by studying abroad.


The University of Nottingham has campuses in Malaysia and China, and both offer places for students who miss out on a university offer in the UK. Vincenzo Raimo, director of Nottingham’s international office, said: ‘The courses and degrees are the same as you would get here, although an employer may be even more impressed by someone who has studied in Asia.’ The University of Bolton has a campus in the United Arab Emirates, with many places


available to UK school-leavers. Middlesex University’s overseas campus in Dubai offers 17 undergraduate programs, with faculties including arts and education, business, engineering and information, sciences and health, and social sciences. The EU
