THE HORSE GAZETTE Arabian news & more from around the state by Ginny Nokes of Seguin, TX. Christmas is a time

for rejoicing. As we celebrate the birth of the Christ child we give thanks for the blessings of a free nation and pray for those that fight for our freedom. Christmas is a time of giving and caring and loving. It is a time when

we reach out to each other. That to me is the true spirit of Christmas. The animals play a part of the Christmas scene. They were in the stable and a part of the nativity scene. The horses we own or, should I say they own us. Through these

magnificent animals, we have gained an extended family of friends who share our love of the horse. So to all of you that are a part of this family and my friends, I wish you a wonderful Christmas filled with love, joy and peace. You are special and I treasure your friendship. The delegates rep-

resenting the Alamo Arabian Horse Association returned from their trip to Florida and the convention. The Delegate numbers were down this year. One of the new rules they passed was regarding ear plugs

for show horses. It is now legal to use ear plugs in your horses ears during a class. It had never occurred to me that there was a need for ear plugs. But then, I am from the old school. We talk to our horses. We praise them when they do good and scold them when they misbehave. I still say whoa and I want to make certain my horse can hear me when I say the word. Edythe Snowden

shared their good news with us. They attended the Shoot Out at Glen Rose. “Allison and Audrey Buffington showed their new horses there and had a very exciting debut. Audrey who is just learning to post the trot won 3rds and 4ths in

large

hunter classes. Allison rode her half Arab western and won two Reserve Championships! They are going to be something to watch in the Walk Trot Divi- sion. And on to the Christmas Show! The girls did even better with

each winning a Reserve Cham- pionship. Allison won in West- ern Pleasure and Audrey in Hunt Equestrian. Riding M&M Audrey placed 2nd sure, 2nd

.” Hannah

Jones won the Eq. and Pleasure championships at Glen Rose. She is ready to finish up her Walk Trot years with a bang since she was Reserve National Champion in 2010. Watch out in 2011!! ” More news from Edythe “Lak- en Synder made great progress with her western horse and will be a big contender in the 14 –17 division. She has a new English Pleasure horse to show next year also. Skye Williams is go-

ing to be busy in 2011 the show season. She will be showing her purebred western mare this year with Cody Ralston. MM Cherokee will be shown in trail and her English horse Thee Jokers Wild will be shown in show hack, costume and equita- tion.” This should be another great year. I can’t wait!” Congratulations to

Edythe and her group. It is a thrill to see our youth do well at the shows. They work very

AQHA

hard and deserve the success they receive. Nicole Roberts and

her mare Echo entered the Hunter Pleasure Classes at the Shoot Out and came home with several seconds and was Reserve Champion. Good job Nicole.

DONNA MURPHY and AMIGO.

Donna Murphy and

her good friend and endurance horse Amigo recently com- peted in the Lone Star Race in Bandera, Texas. Donna has ridden several horses to wins in endurance and loves the thrill of hitting the trails to ride 25 miles or more. Endurances riders and their horses have a special bond with each other as they cover the miles as a team. Donna and Amigo entered the 25 Limited Distance. Donna writes of her

ride in the Lone Star Race in Bandera, Texas. “The hill country

was alive with beauty: big open skies, mountain and hills, and the landscape was alive with fall colors. The trail was challenging and technical in places with twists, turns and uneven terrain, places with stair stepping rocks to climb, and yet some places where you could let the horse stretch out and really go. Amigo was feeling

great, he was eager at the start AQHA

but willing to listen to the pace I wanted to set. At the first vet check, we passed with great scores. After the hold, we were allowed on trail 5 minutes ahead of the others so we got to ride the second loop totally by ourselves. Amigo took care of me, we rode smart and finished first. What an awesome ride we had. It is such a good feeling to complete a ride with a sound and happy horse. My life with horses

is ever so blessed! I meet so many awesome folks. The horses teach me patience and keep me going. Bonding with your horse is so special. I love this sport!!

Endurance riding is a total challenge, when you compete with a sound happy horse. It is a total accomplishment be- cause taking care of your horse comes first. Happy Trails and

Happy holidays to all. ” The show scene for

2011 is set and we can look forward to a number of Arabian shows starting with the HOUS- TON ARABIAN SHOW in January. The SASHA follows at the Rose Palace, the Central Arabian Horse Club’s LONE STAR CLASSIC will be at the Rose Palace. Alamo Arabian Horse Club holds it annual SPRING FIESTA SHOW in May, also at the Rose Palace. Hope to see you there. Virginia Cherry an-

nounces they have hired a judge for their Spring Fiesta Open Show held in Sinton, Texas. Buck Grass popular Arabian judge has been hired to judge the show. The show will be held April 30th
