» Andrew Macdonald DNA FILMS
Need to know One of the UK’s most ambitious outfi ts, DNA was initially set up by Andrew Macdonald and Duncan Kenworthy after an injection of Lottery funding in 1997, with Allon Reich joining in 2002. In 2003, DNA signed a joint venture with Fox Searchlight and has worked with Fox on such fi lms as 28 Days Later, The Last King Of Scotland, Sunshine and,
most recently, Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go starring Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan. While the relationship is ongoing, DNA does not work exclusively with Fox: the $45m Dredd is backed by Reliance BIG Pictures and IM Global. Kenworthy stepped back from the running of the company in 2003. Key personnel Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich, Joanne Smith. Incoming Pete Travis’ 3D comic adaptation
Dredd, scripted
by Alex Garland, is currently shooting in South Africa. Andrew Macdonald says “It has always been diffi cult to make fi lms in the UK. We feel that the key is to stay nimble, and to adapt to whatever the niche is and yet to maintain good relationships with the major distributors who will get there fi rst.” info@dnafi

Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson EON PRODUCTIONS
Need to know EON is the home of James Bond, one of the most successful franchises in history. While EON announced earlier this year that development on Bond 23 had been suspended in- defi nitely as a result of the uncer- tainty surrounding MGM’s future, the project looks likely to be resur- rected now MGM’s restructuring has begun. EON’s US-based affi li- ate Danjaq co-owns, with MGM,
the copyright on the existing Bond fi lms and controls the rights to produce future fi lms as well as all worldwide merchandising. Both companies are wholly owned and controlled by the Broccoli/Wilson family. Albert R ‘Cubby’ Broc- coli’s daughter Barbara Broccoli and stepson Michael G Wilson took over the franchise when they co-produced 1995’s GoldenEye. A much-heralded revamp saw them successfully reinvent Bond as a tougher, more relevant character for the 21st century and Dan- iel Craig’s fi rst outing as the spy in Casino Royale took more than $594m worldwide. Key personnel Michael G Wilson, Barbara Broccoli. Incoming Bond 23, though the fi lm is on ice pending decisions over the future of MGM. Sam Mendes was attached to direct.
