“Shield’s
understanding of the client’s requirements and their desire to constantly improve, works as a source for our designers to develop solutions. We are provided the benefit of instant feedback as these options are tested in the field by Shield - we are then able to keep making improvements.”
and we were keen to expand the capabilities to other areas. Working directly with Innovise on development we have seen the system expand to include our entire invoicing system, the management of holiday pay, staff training and qualifications. The adjustments made have been ground breaking and of major benefit both to internal efficiencies within Shield and the service staff and clients receive on the ground. As needs are identified we work closely with Innovise to identify, develop and implement effective solutions.”
The results of this close co-operation have been of benefit to the wider industry. The developments made in partnership with Shield have seen widespread employment by other leading industry firms and have quickly become the standard.
These developments form a continuing process. As outside technology develops, so does the potential for new innovative solutions. The improvement in handheld unit technology has enabled the successful implementation of the PDA into the security industry’s suite of tools. Shield was quick to realise the potential of PDA technology and thanks to the partnership with Innovise they have been able to exploit it. The option of fully adaptable, live electronic reporting of patrols and incidents are available to the client. The range of possibilities this allows for expands just as fast as Innovise keep developing features.
Graeme Hughes of Innovise:
“The key to producing new products of genuine value is to work closely with the end user. Shield’s understanding of the client’s requirements and their desire to constantly improve, works as a source for our designers to develop solutions. We are provided the benefit of instant feedback as these options are tested in the field by Shield - we are then able to keep making improvements. It is a mutually beneficial relationship and one which is bearing fruit for the wider industry.”
Looking to the future, Shield and Innovise are looking to exploit the rapidly increasing relevance of online solutions and the part they will play in the industry. Currently they are seeking to make operational an online client and employee portal so that certain service factors can be addressed more rapidly and manager time on routine but essential administration can be reduced. This will be achieved by increasing the accuracy and speed of information available to all and thereby allowing operational management to spend more time interacting with clients and staff at the assignment.
The relationship between Innovise and Shield demonstrates that in a people industry there need be no conflict between new technology and personal interaction. It is not a mutually exclusive but a symbiotic arrangement of resources. It is only by employing a responsive and adaptive approach to technology that a company is able to get the best from its people. Better technology, better service and more empowered people.
