RASCW RCA Commercial Corner
Ralph Kamps RASCW Vice President and Chair, Commercial Services Committee
O
ur RASCW Commercial Services Committee is moving forward. Although still in discussions with the local Commercial Brokers Group, Inc. (CBG), there
appears to be interest in working cooperatively in the very near future. We have already planned and put together a pro- gram on the New Commercial Real Estate Lien Law. We will have a meeting with CBG leadership this month to discuss future opportunities for our Members. I see only good coming out of this for the commercial practitioner - more and better quality services. The RASCW web site will soon have commer- cial information and tools as well as a calendar of events, seminars and educational venues.
If you have not signed up to receive the Commercial Connec- tions newsletter from NAR, I urge you to do so. There is so much great content, ideas and commentary on what is going on in our commercial world. Almost all of it is adaptable to our local practice. All quality
information....and it is free. Great tools on a great site.

One last note: the NAR Board of Directors adopted a recommendation this week at its annual convention from the Commercial Alliance Committee to oppose the lease accounting standard changes proposed by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). These changes would treat income producing real estate as a financing business on company balance sheets.
NAR is concerned that these changes will be detrimental to the economy because they will reduce the overall borrowing capacity of many commercial real estate lessees and lessors. FASB and IASB are accepting comments on the proposed changes until December 15, 2010. It is expected that, if adopted, the changes would become effective in 2012 or 2013. For more information, go to
