Energy Star Qualified Appliances Can Save Big On Energy and Dollars •An Energy Star rated
to that old dishwasher or refrigerator? Trying to hold out for another year or so? Did you know that those
old appliances could be costing a lot more money than you might imag- ine? “The more money you
save on your utility bills can more than make up for the cost of a new and more efficient Energy Star model,” says Dave Souter, one of the owners of Baron’s Major Brands Appliances. And with the incredible
rebates being offered by manufacturers nowa- days, many new appli- ances can almost be had at cost. “This is a great time to
invest,” said Souter. “If you can afford to spend a little now you’ll save a lot of money in the long run. It’s an opportune time to invest because of the value.” Considering that appli-
ances can account for up to twenty percent of your total household energy costs, the savings can be significant. A few examples of the
energy and money that can be saved with new Energy Star rated appli- ances are: •The average home
spends about $1900 on energy costs every year. Energy Star appliances can save $80 a year in energy cots. •Energy Star qualified
appl iances use 10-50 percent less energy and water than standard models. •Dishwashers made
since 1994 have reduced hot water use by 7 to 10 gallons per load, a 30 percent difference.

What is Energy Star? An appl iance that earns the Energy Star label means that the product meets strict en- ergy efficiency guide- lines set by the US En- vironmental Protection Agency and the US De- partment of Energy.
