The products shown here are the beginnings of a new line of Sri Lankan canes and staffs that we hope to develop over the next several months. We have a relationship with a local outreach program which has been working with craftsmen overseas to create and manufacture high quality items in a self-sustaining and economically viable way. These items are currently being produced in a small village workshop which was built and equipped with funds from this local humanitarian outreach after the tsunami devastated the island in 2004. These beautiful tropical hardwoods grow on the island and are used to produce the same hand-crafted, high quality canes and staffs that Brazos Walking Sticks has been producing for
LIYAN
over ten years. We recently sent one of our own craftsmen to Sri Lanka to work with three of the local villagers. We plan to add more selections soon, including our popular “backpacker” and “hitchhiker” models. We plan to bring these items into inventory in limited quanities over the next few months. This is a cooperative program which provides much needed employment for the villagers and also produces staffs and canes that would normally sell for much higher prices because of the cost of raw materials.
