The best of Time Off in the Cotswolds
Here’s our very personal choice of five of the best events worth a trip out to see in the Cotswolds over the next few weeks.
1. PELARGONIUM SHOW – Cotswold Fuchsia & Pelargonium Society Saturday 29th May
Gardeners passionate to see pelargoniums in all their mid summer glory should head to Shurdington south west of Cheltenham for an event organised by the Cotswold Fuchsia & Pelargonium Society. The show which runs from 12 noon – 4.30pm is at The Social Centre, Church Road, Shurdington.

2. CHELTENHAM FOOD & DRINK FESTIVAL
Montpellier Gardens, Cheltenham
Friday 18th June to Sunday 20th June
This Cotswold based event may not be totally gardening based but it’s a great
three days celebrating the area’s food and wine. There’s lots of demonstrations stalls and special regional events taking place over the three days. It’s worth the trip alone for the visit to the Cider Garden where you can experience the taste of refreshing cider. There’s also the benefit of seeing everything on show in the lovely surrounds of Montpellier Gardens right in the centre of Cheltenham.

4. SPECIALIST PLANT FAIR
Stoberry Park, nr Wells – 31st May
Stoberry House which overlooks Wells Cathedral with Glastonbury Tor as a background hosts a Bank Holiday
specialist plant fair which offers a wide range of stalls and summer plants with a difference on offer. Stoberry Park is famous for its garden art exhibitions and well worth visiting. The fair runs from 10am to 4pm.

5. GRETTON FESTIVAL, NR CHELTENHAM
Gretton Flower Arrangers
26th/27th June
Flower arrangers are in for a special two days at the Gretton Festival taking place in the village nine miles north of Cheltenham. Entrance is £5.

3. MAY DAY CELEBRATIONS Upton House & Gardens, nr Banbury – 31st May
Traditional May Day celebrations are being planned at this National Trust Property in Warwickshire. The afternoon includes Morris Dancing. The stunning gardens, being returned to their 1930s heyday – consist of a sweeping lawn, giving way to a series of terraces and herbaceous borders leading to a kitchen garden, tranquil water garden and the
National Collection of Asters. Normal admission charges apply and the event takes place from 2.15pm to 4pm.
