MENDING THE NETS
This is on the island of Hydra in Greece. I conceived the idea of having everything radiating out from the thumb on the fisherman’s right hand and to this end I used a rigger brush to paint lines of thick cerulean blue from that point to cover the whole canvas.
When that paint was dry I began the rest of the painting over the top of it and I’m thrilled with the result. I love the silhouette of the man’s face and the cigarette stub hanging from his mouth.
