BEARINGS
Which is better - a pulley with bushings or a pulley with sealed bearings? A pulley whose sheave turns on sealed ball bearings is usually more efficient than a pulley incorporating bushings. Output of a system using ball bearing pulleys is significantly higher than systems using all bushing pulleys and the same input forces.
Sealed bearing pulleys tend to be slightly more expensive, and are sealed closed to prevent contamination. While efficient, under extraordinary loads sealed bearings can be prone to damage. Pulleys with bushings tend to be less expensive and more durable than sealed bearing pulleys under heavy loads. In short; pulleys with bearings are higher maintenance. The best pulley for you depends on your specific application.
SMC 3” PRUSIK MINDING PULLEY
The unique shape of SMC’s aluminum side plates allow the efficient use of Prusik hitches as a belay or progress capture device. Constructed with a 3” diameter sheave running on a high efficiency ball bearing. Low profile fasteners help eliminate the possibility of the pulley snagging.
Key Features:
Ball bearing . Large top hole easily accepts 3 large carabiners . Designed for 11mm to 13 mm ropes . Precision machined aluminum side plates and sheaves . Sealed bearings . Double pulleys include a becket
