and installed a new 9 liter Caterpillar diesel. While this was being done, they moved the fuel tank aft, installed new windows, repaired rotten core in the house and installed new electronics.
On the other side of the shop is a Repco 37, a former seine boat. She has been in for a cosmetic upgrade, which included fairing the topsides and painting with Alexseal. Nestled in between these two boats is a 15-foot fiberglass peapod. She was in for new gunwales, seats and then paint. Other work this winter has included another MDI 37, which is also getting a new engine. She had a 375-hp Caterpillar, which was replaced with a rebuilt 430-hp Cummins diesel. A Holland 38 had her 3208 Caterpillar replaced with a new 9 liter Caterpillar diesel.
One of the busiest yards on the coast is Johanson Boat Works in West Rockland. One of the major projects as been finishing hull #2 of the Far Harbour 39, designed by Robert Perry, and offered by Container, Inc. This winter they have been working on finishing the interior, which is about three quarters done. The keel has been made by Mars Metal, and Seldon has built the mast. A Little Harbor 38 has been in for a teak deck.
Coming in soon is a 1958 42-foot Bunker & Ellis, which will be in for a major refit over the next year and a half. She will have structural work, replace the gasoline engine with a diesel and add more of an interior. One project completed this winter was on a Bristol 33, which received a new Beta diesel.
A J-46 had three quarters of one side removed due to problems with the core. This was repaired, reglassed, faired and then Awlgripped.
Another J-46 was in to have her rudder repaired, new electronics package, and a new racing bottom.
A J-35 had her hull Awlgripped and a race finish put on her bottom. They also redid her brightwork.
A J-100 was in to have her topsides Awlgripped.
A J-44 was in to have her rudder repaired, and then was given a racing bottom.

Boatbuilding in Northport has had a busy winter with repair jobs. They are also looking to expand next year with more storage boats. In the shop is ARABESQUE, which is an S&S design, Derecketor built. She is for her

annual maintenance, which is mostly varnish and paint.
Also in is a 38-foot Pearson Freedom. She is having her interior joinery modified. A LeCompte 38 Northeast is having her brightwork redone and the galley rebuilt. A 53-foot Bud McIntosh built schooner is in having her aft cabin ceiling replaced. Just arrived is a sailboat, which has been in the water the last seven years with little to no maintenance done.
A Cape Dory Typhoon was in to have her brightwork refinished.
Light Fiberglass in Corea has been very busy with repair work over the winter. In the shop is a RP-40 was in to have her engine replaced. They also had to replace half the platform, which was rotten and repaint the bottom.
An MDI 37 is also in for an engine change. She will be getting a 375-hp John Deere diesel. Other work will include cutting out the floor, addressing a tank issue, cleaning out the tanks, changing her to wet exhaust, change the length of the splitwheel house and then cosmetics.
A Young Brothers 45 is in for a new rudder, check and replace hoses as needed, and sand and repaint the bottom. In early March a Young Brothers 40 was in for a new rudder box and bottom paint. Another Young Brothers 40 was in for new boxes and cosmetics.
If that is not enough they have an additional 19 jobs on the board, some easy some not so easy. This will keep them busy right into the summer.
Alley Boats in Addison is working on the custom 36 power cruiser. They have the cabin on, tankage and platform framing in. Also in is the engine, which is a 500-hp Cummins diesel. Next they will be working on the windshield, shelter top and platform decking. Then they will begin on the interior. The accommodations will include a queen berth, hanging locker, enclosed head with separate shower and galley, which will include a stove, sink and refrigerator. In the shelter there will be seating at the helm, This boat is scheduled to be done the end of spring.
Once this boat is complete, Alley will be starting on a 28-foot lobster boat of his own design for himself. She is going to be powered with a small block Chevy and hopes for a top speed over 15.
Alley is now looking for repair work for next winter.
