abandoned pony we came across when looking for the prop-
erty that would become Rainbow Meadows. After successfully
negotiating an absentee owner’s release of this badly foundered
pony and bringing him back to health, watching him go from
forgotten and neglected to a home where he got lots of atten-
tion and love, we knew that this was our purpose in life. Every
horse that we help fuels my determination to ensure that the
horses within my reach are safe from injustices which might
be inflicted upon them by humans. Each horse is my inspira-
tion. My passion. And I’m thankful every day for those around
me who share this deep, boundless love for horses who want to
join in and help, too.

Sandy Elmore
A fellow wild horse advocate asked Ms. Elmore as they prepared
to witness another Bureau of Land Management wild horse round
up: “Why did you come, why did you put yourself at risk by driving
all night?” There was a short but obvious pause and she lifted her
head to look him square in the eyes, “They wouldn’t let me sleep, the
screams, I could hear them I could bloody well hear them.”
He heard Terry’s camera begin to click off shots behind me as he
inhaled deeply and replied,
“Better buckle up, baby, because if you thought you heard screams
yesterday you haven’t heard anything, yet.” and with that the three
of them held hands and watched the helicopter drive a band of for-
mer wild horses up the valley and into the trap. There was not a dry
eye amongst us, nor is there to this day.
