The owner, Eve Hessey, has made a garden of reflection
depicting her life both in New Zealand and in this country.
She has an ornamental vegetable garden with trained fruit
trees, the beds within scented lavender, rosemary and box.
There is a Mediterranean garden, a labyrinth, a meadow and
an orchard – plenty to see within an acre of garden.
Location: Saltford Farm Barn, Saltford, BS31 3JS. 6 miles W
of Bath, on the A4 between Bath and Bristol. Saltford Farm
is at the Bath end of the village. Parking arrangements will
be signed, as the busy A4 is unsuitable for parking.
Open: Sunday 28th March 2pm – 5pm. Visitors also
welcome by appointment.
Admission: £3, children free. Home made teas, crafts.
Plants for sale. No dogs. Gravel paths make for limited
wheelchair access in places.

Fairfield, near Stogursey
The Elizabethan manor, the home of Sir Michael and
Lady Gass, has a bonus for visitors to the gardens – from
the grounds they can look across to fine views of the
Quantocks and the sea.
The house is in a mixture of medieval and Elizabethan
styles, and has been in the same family, the Acland-Hoods,
for more than 800 years. Lady Gass is the Lord Lieutenant
of Somerset.

Later in the season there are giant echiums, gunnera over
the lower ponds, candelabra primulas and arum lilies.
From the garden there are views across to west Dorset.
The owners, Mr. and Mrs Robin Goffe welcome visitors and
provide cream teas. The garden is also open on both May
Bank Holiday weekends and one Sunday in June. The house
is not open.

miles SW of Crewkerne. Turn off the B3165 at Clapton, or S
off the A30 Chard to Crewkerne Road.
