Green Cottage, Lydney
Just outside Lydney, this is a country garden of one and a half
acres which has been planted for interest throughout the year
and for wildlife. Green Cottage has mature trees and plenty of
interesting water features, with a stream, a duck pond and a
bog garden.
The woodland area which is being developed by the owners,
Mr. and Mrs Baber, has ferns, hellebores, daphnes and other
shade loving plants. Although it is open for spring flowers
now, the garden has a National Collection of rare Victorian and
Edwardian peonies, so make a note that it would be good for a
later visit as well.
In May there are the early peonies, and June is the best time to
see the Victorian and Edwardian lactifolia cultivars.
The garden has limited wheelchair access in March due to the
location of the hellebores.
