Iberia UMC gives back
on Christmas Eve
Last year Iberia UMC used their Christmas Eve service
as a time to give back to their community. This is the action
they took:
Four weeks out: All members were ask to write down
the names of three people in our town who do not attend
church, and make a commitment to pray for them each
day.
Two weeks out: All members were asked to invite those
that they had been praying for to attend our Christmas Eve
service.
For four consecutive weeks short informational men-
tions of this service were posted in the area newspaper.
The school superintendent was invited to the service to
speak to the importance of the mission work the church
does in the area.
All in attendance were advised that 100 percent of
the evening offering would be spent on the elementary
school age children feeding program that the church administers. The offering collected $150 and
received an additional $300 [unsolicited] in cash funds to help some families with need in the
community.
The church posted a 16.6 percent increase in that service over one year ago, of which eight were
first time attendees to the church, and an additional four had not been in attendance for a one
year period.
“It was the most prayed over service our congregation has had in approximately four years, and
I believe was executed as well as it could have been,” said Rev. Ron Orr. “I do understand that a
small church in a small community is unable to match all that the large churches can do, but none
the less I was and am very proud of how well our church did.”
