APPY BIRTHDAY TO US!!!
This issue marks the completion of our first year and the start-off of our second. The
May-June issue for 2007 was our kick-off edition. WOW, what a bunch of changes
in the year, all because of you!!
May / June 2008
The magazine industry is a lot like our show jumping community. People
work together, even when they are in a “competition” of sorts. I’d like to
take this opportunity to extend a special thank you to Cheryl Erpelding, of
Riding Magazine, for allowing me to pillage her knowledge when I need Founder/Publisher
to. We are truly two different types of magazines and I appreciate her
openness when I am in confusion.

Summer is quickly upon us and riders from the coast begin their
travels to all over the world. As we go to print for this issue, there
is a group from this coast in Sweden competing at the World
Managing Editor
Cup Finals. The final WCAR Spruce Meadow Qualifiers are
taking place at the Del Mar and Ranch and Coast shows. Four
Shelley Allyn
Teams will go north to Canada representing us. Richard
Spooner and Will Simpson have recently been on the East
Coast but are traveling to Europe to chase their dreams.
Technical Editor
Jenni Martin has begun her stint in Europe also, riding the
Sandra Murphy
big jumps on some very nice horses.
In the mean time here at home, the Zone 10 Hunter
Committee is kicking off the start of their wonderful
projects. June 18-20, the Zone 10 Pony Hunter
Associate Director
Championships take off at the Oaks Blenheim June Susie McCleary
Classic II, and later in the year, September to
November, the rest of their projects take place. Zone
10 Jumpers are in the midst of their qualifiers for the
Editorial Department
North American Young Riders Championships in
Parker, Colorado in August. Two Teams will go
Sharon Weiss
representing the West Coast.
It’s pretty amazing the amount of programs
available to the West Coast Riders, and pretty Design & Art Direction
amazing the caliber of riders we have that we can
send. Be sure to take the time and support these
Working Lens Productions
projects when you can, volunteer or donate. The
Iris Thompson
programs can only survive by the involvement and
input of the exhibitors and most riders have no idea
Justin Phillips
what they are. Take the time to find out!!
WCAR has a new Board of Directors seated and it
looks like a power house of our West Coast Sport. This Contributing Editors
enthusiastic group is spending an exorbitant amount of
time organizing direction for the organization, plans for
Larry & Maryne Langer
scholarships, clinics, seminars and funding, as well
Sandra Murphy
initiating discussion with all exhibitors. See the related
article in this issue for more information.
Please remember to send me information, articles and
suggestions…especially Scene and Heard.
I NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU!!!
