used today. Perhaps the most exciting mechanical assist devices are yet to come. The
use of newer percutaneous devices remains in its infancy. As these devices become
simpler and safer to deploy, their use may well increase. Although, in theory, these new
assist devices, such as the TandemHeart, should be helpful, it remains to be proven
whether they actually alter outcomes in patients with cardiogenic shock.
