he shower category of the bathroom market is predicted to continue its growth


over the last 10 years with a 4% increase in 2016. Lifestyle changes together with returning rises in disposable incomes, are expected to be significant factors in generating replacement shower sales, with consumers upgrading to more modern and aspirational products. The market has changed considerably over the


last 3 or 4 years with some major brands falling victim to the challenges of low cost producers mainly from overseas. It is those who invest in new product development and who do not sacrifice quality for price who will continue to succeed. Product development has seen new ideas.

Chunky frames, thick trays and cumbersome handles are things of the past. Smoked and mirrored glass are new looks taking over from “modesty” glass. Trays in black, slate and even certain colours are becoming popular to create a different look. Enclosures have moved to silver and white profiles, and in response to the appeal of black trays, are now being offered with black profiles too. As trays have become shallower, and even recessed, enclosures have compensated by


increasing height, with 1900 or 2000mm now standard. Consumers are also keen on enclosures with smoother mechanisms, soft close doors and the reassurance of thicker profile 8mm glass. There is a clear trend towards walk-in wetrooms,


advances in smart technology for shower controls and demand for inclusive design products as people are living longer and preferring to live at home. The shower market is no longer an add-on to the


bathroom but has a market in its own right and offers excellent opportunities to attract new business to showrooms with displays of modern, high quality, design conscious shower enclosures.
