The

Director’s Eddy Keeping Relevant

“Is it relevant to our mission?” This is the question I ask myself when making any decision for the ACA. The ACA has worked with many organizations over the year from the U.S. Coast Guard to the Boy Scouts to Subaru to L.L. Bean. In forging relationships with each of these organizations, we decided, each time, that working with them would align with our mission of making the world a better place to paddle. The mission statement is broad, but its breadth and scope allows the ACA to connect with paddlers of all abilities and disciplines. Recently we formalized a partnership with USA Canoe Kayak, primarily

a canoesport (which covers all types of paddling) racing organization that is sanctioned by the U.S. Olympic Committee to help athletes achieve Olympic and Paralympic goals. USA CK also competes in a number of world paddlesport disciplines (e.g dragon boat, canoe polo, freestlye, etc.) and events including the Worlds and Pam Am games. Healthy, fun competition has always been a part of the ACA and we believe

partnership with USA CK creates a symbiotic relationship that will help members who want to achieve high performance racing goals. ACA has supported and grown other tenets, stewardship programs, education and instruction programs and even our insurance programs, significantly over the last five years—and I am excited about growing our organization in the area of competition. The decision to formally partner with USA CK improves our ability to support and sanction competition at all levels. I am confident that this partnership advances our mission of making the world a better place to paddle.
