Contents Dear Reader,

Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today. In this issue, we look in detail at best practice and how it can be shared between practitioners. This is timely, as MPs in the Public Accounts Committee have scrutinised the effectiveness of the pupil premium and have stated that “urgent steps” are needed to ensure more effective support for two million disadvantaged pupils in England. According to the committee, one of the practical ways in which attainment can be raised in this cohort is through the effective sharing of best practice.

With that in mind, I’m delighted to bring you another extended version of our ever popular View from the classroom feature. This month, we speak to Nazneen Chadee from Woodford County High School for Girls, about the school’s involvement in the Digital Schoolhouse Project, and its provision of expert support and knowledge for the study and delivery of the Key Stage 2 Computing curriculum. Working with providers such as the DSH allows great ideas to be shared across all the schools participating in the programme, to the benefit of pupils and practitioners alike. Meanwhile, in our main feature, we look at the Let Teachers SHINE programme, designed specifically to reward teachers who have come up with innovative ways to help disadvantaged pupils. Elsewhere, we hear from Jane Friswell at nasen, who describes what best practice looks like in a SEND setting, and from Kirsty Timmins, qualified teacher and Director of Shropshire-based TARA Professional Recruitment, who offers advice to supply teachers on fitting in with a school’s methods and keeping up with best practice.

Remember, you can get in touch with us via Twitter, Facebook and our homepage, as well as by phone or email. We love hearing from you!
