Hello to you if you picked up this issue at Euro Attractions Show in Gothenburg (Göteborg), Sweden. This will be the first time the event has taken place in the Nordic countries. It will also be the first time it has occured alongside an amusement park, well almost. Famously the 2004 show was staged at Disneyland Paris resort, but attendees enjoyed only limited access to the theme parks on site. This October, there will be five parties over just two


nights at Liseberg, in addition to various behind-the-scenes tours and free entry to the park for EAS participants on the weekends before and after the show. No wonder IAAPA Europe is marketing the host city not as Gothenburg but Liseberg. Like other urban parks in Scandinavia, Liseberg enjoys


a city centre location that due to the price of real estate would be almost inconceivable were it built from scratch today. Yet thanks to the vision of its founders all those years ago, it is now a cherished community asset. include Gardaland, Puy du Fou and Hansa Park, the one- time German Legoland park that now themes all of its attractions around legends from the Hanseatic League. There is one European park that enjoys none of the


majesty of any of the above destinations, yet in just six weeks has made a massive impact. Dismaland, the “bemusement park” set up by superstar street artist Banksy in Weston-super-Mare is credited with generating an estimated £7 million ($10.8m/€9.6m) of trade for the British seaside resort during its short season. It might poke fun at elements of the amusement industry – and society in general – but this “pop-up park” has undoubtedly had a positive affect on local attractions including Weston’s Grand Pier. On buying tickets, guests were informed that the following were strictly prohibited: “spray paint, marker pens, knives and legal representatives of the Walt Disney Corporation.”
