“T e way the device works is that as the tidal fl ow comes in one direction, it turns the turbine in one direction. As the tide reverses, we turn the turbine with (or nacelle) to face the fl ow in the opposite direction and generate power in that way. T e electrical generator is in the nacelle and the power from is carried to shore by a subsea cable, where we connect it to the grid.” Murphy enthusiasticaly reels off the statistics pertaining to the DeltaStream. “T e total unit is a 400kW machine at 4 knots fl ow speed. It weighs 150 tonnes.
