Iskratel launches Innbox V60U universal home gateway

Iskratel has launched its second-generation family of universal home gateways, which now feature GPON connectivity. The Innbox V60U is a hybrid customer premises equipment (CPE) device that supports most access network technologies, including GPON, FTTH, ADSL2, VDSL2, and Ethernet.

Iskratel says the device will appeal to operators because it lowers the expense of running the network. Deploying just one kind of CPE device instead of many drastically simplifies and optimises logistics. And it saves money when rolling out a new technology to customers, as a home installation visit from technicians is no longer required.

The Innbox V60U will also be attractive to consumers as it includes advanced features like dual-radio Wi-Fi with 802.11ac MIMO wireless, full gigabit routing and several USB ports for extendibility.

‘Iskratel has successfully delivered and implemented their CPE product Innbox V60U to our network, and along the way showed a high level of professionalism and competence. We have established that the equipment provided by Iskratel is of high quality and is reliable,’ said Miroslav Štravs, CTO at Slovenian internet service provider T-2. www.innbox.iskratel.com

Craley Group teams with CTTS for FTTH training

Craley Group has formed a strategic alliance with CTTS as the global training partner for its Atlantis Hydrotec system and other Craley Group associated technologies. Atlantis Hydrotec provides a conduit to a building by installing a micro-bore water pipe within the existing water supply infrastructure into which a fibre- optic communications cable can then be safely fitted without any adverse effect on the water supply. This approach is gathering momentum with customers in a number of locations globally, the vendor claims. Crayley says it chose CTTS for its training needs because it is a highly respected communications infrastructure training organisation. CTTS provides installation training for BT Openreach and has supported technology roll-outs in the UK and for many organisations around the world. Craley will now be able to offer an extensive range of training packages, covering its Atlantis Hydrotec FTTH systems as well as a full suite of additional courses covering associated topics from physical aspects (e.g. road and street works, fibre installation, termination and testing) through to planning, design and surveying. Bespoke courses are also available. www.craley.com/atlantis-hydrotec/ www.cable-training.co.uk

Fujikura launches 21S compact fusion splicer

Fujikura Europe has launched the 21S, an advanced single-fibre fusion splicer that it claims is the smallest and lightest active V-groove model on the market. At 1.1kg it is extremely lightweight and measures 120 x 189 x 71.3mm.

The compact splicer, which has been developed for applications in FTTx, local area networks and data centres, features a moveable V-groove mechanism for active alignment to improve splicing performance and give consistent splicing results. Fujikura says its splicer family now includes splicing options from the basic with the 12S, to the very advanced, which is met by the flagship 70S, and everything in between. ‘Our new 21S splicer allows customers to opt for a level of splicing in between the 12S and 70S,’ said Neil Bessant, fusion splicer divisional manager at Fujikura Europe. ‘It is a unique product, in that it delivers high-quality splicing without a higher price tag.’

Fluke Networks introduces LinkWare Live Professional

At the 2015 BICSI Winter Conference, Fluke Networks unveiled a powerful new edition of LinkWare Live, its cloud-based cable certification project management service. Fluke Networks says it pioneered the direct

tester-to-cloud connection with LinkWare Live Essentials, enabling contractors to upload copper and fibre certification test results straight from testers in the field, eliminating wasted time and cutting the risk of lost or corrupt test results. LinkWare Live Professional builds on those capabilities by offering two-way interaction between the always-mobile project manager and technicians with their test equipment. Project managers can now set up new jobs for multiple

PE.fiberoptics checks optical fibre quality

The FG500HR from PE.fiberoptics is a fibre geometry measurement system designed for the production, laboratory or R&D environments where optical fibre is made. Like most optical characteristics, the geometry of the fibre is frozen at the time of manufacturing, but it can vary along the length of the fibre. It is considered good practice to measure the geometry to ensure the consistency of the finished product.

Designed and built in the UK by PE.fiberoptics, the FG500HR helps optical fibre manufacturers implement IEC recommendations in relation to fibre and coating geometry measurement. The measurement system measures the near-field and side-view fibre and coating dimensions to provide all the information that fibre cable manufacturers require.

PE.fiberoptics says the product was developed in

response to end-user demand. Customers value the ability to measure a wider range of coloured fibres, at twice the speed of competitive products whilst fully complying with IEC standards, according to sales director Andy Nicholas. www.pefiberoptics.com

and real-time arc calibration functions. Its typical splice time is nine seconds and its tube-heating time is 30 seconds. The splicer also has a built in battery which enables 200 cycles of splice and tube heating when fully charged. www.fujikura.co.uk

testers, assign cable IDs and configure test limits with just a few keystrokes, and push them to the cloud for access by testers anywhere in the world. Once the job is complete, field technicians can upload the results directly from the tester to the LinkWare Live cloud service, which automatically assigns copper and fibre test results to the correct project. The service includes free cloud-based storage of up to 200,000 copper or 10,000 fibre results (links) or a combination of the two. Both LinkWare Live Essentials and LinkWare

Live Professional are now available as free services in multiple languages for owners of the Versiv test product family worldwide. LinkWare Live Professional will become a monthly subscription service after 2015. www.flukenetworks.com
