ACI gains large deal in Poland...

ACI Worldwide has won a deal to move its long-standing payments software custom- er, PKO Bank Polski, onto its newer offering, Base24-eps. The bank will also take the ‘wrap- per’ components from ACI’s UP solution that comes embedded into the latest version of Base24-eps. The UP framework is a result of a combination of acquisitions made by ACI (in particular that of Australia-based payments software vendor, Distra) and internal devel- opment. Sylvie Boucheron-Saunier, GM, continen-

tal Europe at ACI, says that the UP framework will provide the bank with ‘an advantage of launching new products quickly’. Also, ‘UP’s consolidated approach to the set-up will help the bank to deal with regulatory changes in a centralised way, avoiding duplication of work and effort, as the changes made once in the core will be reflected across the board’. The new contract is for seven years, cov-

ering consumer payments across authorisa- tion, switching and back office card issuing. It will see PKO migrate from ACI’s legacy solution, Base24, onto UP Base24-eps and upgrade to ACI Issuer to support card issuing. The bank has also signed for the ACI Payments Testing tool, dubbed Asset, and premium customer support. PKO is the largest bank in Poland, with 1200 branches, 3000

ATMs and eight million customers. In 2014, the bank acquired the local subsidiary of Nordea (not a customer of ACI), and the integra- tion process is underway, with ACI’s system set to cover Nordea’s

operations as well. ‘The Polish market is changing, there is a lot of consolida-

tion taking place [e.g. BNP Paribas has recently acquired Bank BGŻ from Rabobank and will merge it into BNP Paribas Bank Polska], plus there has been a decrease in interchange fees, so this side of the business is becoming less attractive,’ says Boucheron-Saunier. Hence, there is a need for modernisation and diversification, she states. PKO has ‘international ambitions’, and it is important for it

with us, but because it had to do it.’ Sylvie Boucheron-Saunier, ACI Worldwide
