NO ORDINARY JOE: Top young prospect Joe Colon dropped down a weight class and opened some eyes by capturing a freestyle championship at 57 kg/125.5 lbs. at November’s Bill Farrell International in New York.
MIDLANDS CHAMPIONSHIPS: Cory Clark, Mike Evans, Nathan Burak and Bobby Telford captured individual titles as the No. 1 Iowa Hawkeyes rolled to a record-setting point total in winning their 24th team title at the Midlands.
PICO POWER: He just turned 18 years old, but Cadet World champion and Junior World silver medalist Aaron Pico is primed to make a strong run at landing a spot on the 2015 Senior World Team and 2016 U.S. Olympic Team.
SOUTHERN SCUFFLE: Penn State captured its fifth straight team title to win the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Nittany Lions won the championship despite having just one finalist and no individual champions.
