sudden distress call came in reporting a troubled swimmer, played by the base’s chaplain unbeknownst to Isaac, needed an immediate rescue. The helicopter pilots diverted course to assist. Arriving on scene, Isaac spotted the chaplain and helped in deploying the crew’s rescue swimmer. Isaac watched firsthand the coordination and teamwork needed to hoist someone aboard the helicopter. He then helped provide first-aid before land- ing at a local hospital, Isaac himself care- fully walked the rescued chaplain down the path, guiding him to safety. Upon his return to the air station, Isaac
was greeted by a cheering crowd and the air station’s commanding officer who wel- comed him back and presented him with awards and a set of naval aviator wings. On day two of his adventure, Isaac
toured the Aviation Technical Training Center where he learned what it takes to become an aviation crewmember. He then experienced being rescued by Coast Guard rescue swimmers, learned how the electronics worked within the helicopter with Coast Guard aircraft electricians and got into the nitty-gritty with Coast Guard aircraft mechanics. At the end of the day, Isaac was presented with three honorary degrees in the aviation fields by the school’s commanding officer. “All this was amazing. The Coast Guard
here went above and beyond everything that we thought could happen,” said Ryan Simmons, Isaac’s father. “Everybody was wonderful, and this has just been a great experience and the time of his life.”

DP East Marina C-Dock under- goes repairs
DANA POINT – The damage incurred by C- Dock in the East Marina of OC Dana Point Harbor earlier this year will be fixed within 30 days as work on the dock began Sept. 2.
Marina tenants were alerted of the
work, which consists of the replacement of the damaged dock. The 65-foot Hatteras, Wild in Sac,
rammed into the East Basin’s C-Dock on Jan. 29, when a mechanical error occurred. The vessel was turning around on its end tie when the mechanical problem hap- pened, causing the boat to back into C Dock, which sits adjacent to the end tie. At least four boats were relocated
throughout the marina due to extensive damage to the dock. Construction is expected to be com-
pleted within 30 days. Four 25 foot slips and a 65 foot end tie were affected by the crash.

sailboat has been arrested on suspicion of DUI after his craft ran aground and began to capsize at Venice Beach. City News Service reports the boat hit the beach between the Venice and Santa Monica piers shortly after midnight Tuesday, Sept. 2. Los Angeles police officers arrived first and helped four people get from the boat to the shore. Sheriff’s Sgt. G. Montoya says the cap- tain was arrested on suspicion of driving a boat while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The captain’s name was not released. The sailboat was left along the surf line until arrangements could be made to have it removed.
