news Celanese to make LFRTs in Brazil

Celanese is to add production capacity for Celstran long fibre reinforced thermoplastics (LFRTs) at its plant in Suzano, Brazil, which already com- pounds POM and PBT. The Expansion is expected to be operational by mid-2015. “The addition of Celstran

manufacturing capabilities to our existing site outside Sao Paulo is part of the Celanese growth strategy to directly serve our customers in Brazil and Latin America, where we see a healthy growth potential, especially in automotive applications,” said Phil McDivitt, vice president and general manager of the engineered

materials business of Celanese. Guert Rucker, commercial

director, South America, for Celanese added: “Production in Brazil will also help address our customers’ needs for value chain localization of raw materials, enabling those customers working with

Celanese to receive even further tax benefits in the automotive segment via the government Inovarauto programme and regional trade agreements.”

Celanese LFRTs offer high

levels of stiffness and toughness for applications

involving metal replacement, weight reduction, impact strength, and easy processing. Target markets include automotive components, consumer appliances, power tools, industrial equipment and aircraft seating. Celstran LFRT grades are

produced using a patented pultrusion process that provides high quality impregna- tion and wetting of the reinforcement fibres, which can include glass, carbon, aramid or stainless steel. Various matrix materials can be used including PA, PP, PPS, PBT, PET, HDPE, PAA, POM or TPU. ❙ www.celanese.com
