Inland Navigation Section Conference REPORT

The Inland Navigation Section Conference took place on 14 August 2014. The Conference stood for a minutes’ silence in remembrance of Juan Carlos Pucci and Gunter Lehninger. Agenda Item 1: Election of Rapporteur

Nick Bramley (Switzerland) was elected Rapporteur. Ivan de la Guardia (Panama) and Terry Snee (Australia) were elected Scrutineers. Joris Kerkhofs (Belgium) and Julio Gonzalez Insfran (Argentina) were elected Tellers.

Agenda Item2: Congress Theme Document

The Conference welcomed the strategies laid out in the Congress Theme document, which had been unanimously adopted by plenary. Agenda Item 3: Four Year Work Programme

At the start of the meeting, a film was shown to the Conference on the work being done in Paraguay on Inland Navigation.

Garcia from Paraguay thanked the Conference for the support and solidarity on helping to build the Trade Union for social protection of workers in the inland navigation industry and opened up an invitation to the Conference to visit, so that they could see how their contribution had helped develop the union.

Suarez from Argentina also thanked the ITF and the Latin American Regional Office for the support in making the project a success.

Many speakers from the floor discussed the Sections’ Four Year Work Programme and priorities with the following points raised:

• Providing Solidarity to other unions, particularly to emerging unions; • Improving working conditions in this industry, focusing on Health and Safety; • Unemployment and loss of jobs;
