About Mehmet Urcu

Mehmet Urcu is a Founder and a Managing Partner of Istnvest Corporate Finance. Prior to forming Istnvest, Mr. Urcu was the Co-Founder and the Managing Partner of Danista Capital Partners based in Istanbul. Prior to that, he had successfully run YF Securities as Executive Vice President and Orion Investment as CEO, a Dubai based investment firm. Prior to this, Mr. Urcu served in a variety of positions during his 5-year tenure at TSKB, a leading investment bank in Turkey. Mehmet Urcu started his financial career at Prudential Investments, part of Prudential Financial. He then worked as an Executive Country Director in USAID/IESC Business Development and JVs program. Mr. Urcu received a BS in Electronics Engineering from Istanbul Technical University and obtained a MS degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in MIS and Financial Management.

Mr. Urcu served in a variety of positions including the CEO during his 5-year tenure at TSKB, a leading investment bank in Turkey. He succesfully completed sizable transactions. The team received the ‘Best Local Partner’ Award from Euromoney in London.

SPO: Lead Manager in TSKB, İş Finansal Kiralama, Ege Seramik, Marmaris Martı placements (Private Placement to major international equity funds and pension funds) M&A:

Advised Gulf Capital for the acquisition of Dogu Tip.

Advised Borkim Group to structure a JV Co. (Qatar Electrode Company) with Almana Group in Doha, Qatar.

Set up an energy JV called Karesi Geothermal Inc. between the Egeli & Co. and NRG Energy. Advised a Private Investor to acquire 100% of a distressed company called Teksan Metering Inc.

Advised Arbel Group for the M&A transaction with Saskcan Pulse (listed company) based in Canada.

Advised Advent International extensively based on a buy-side mandate. Advised Alarko Group for the facilitation of a flagship JV with Carrier. (Alarko-Carrier)

Privatization: Acted as a Preferred Financial Advisor (PFA) to the Elektromed Group for the acquisition of Baskent Natgas Distribution Company - Advised for the purpose of securing the acquisiton finance as well as a foreign strategic partner. Facilitated a partnership between Elektromed and the Qinvest for securing the privatization deal. The deal size was $ 1.5 billion usd.

Advised various industrial groups for the privatization tenders.

Project Finance: Advised WinwinD (Finland) for the acquisition and the financing of a 30 MW Wind Park project in Söke. Facilitated the financing of 750 kW Jeoden Geothermal Plant in Denizli which has been presented by US Exim Bank as a Case Study. The loan was made to Jeoden on a corporate finance basis. Member of the Financing Team for the financing of Adularya Coal-Fired Power Plant with an installed capacity of 2 X 145 MW with an investment amount of 440 mn Euro. Czech Export Bank financed the project. Facilitated the financing of $7 mn usd for a JV company called Qatar

Electrode Company by Qatar Development Bank (QDB).

Debt: Advised Morgan Stanley for structuring of a financing in an amount of EUR 40 mn through the international debt for the purpose of acquiring a mining company. Advised Lehman Brothers extensively for the ISE listed companies. Structured several debt financings for mid-sized industrial companies.
