FOCUS 15

BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE

by JONATHAN WHITE, Partner

UK infrastructure offers an excellent opportunity for investors

O

ver the next two to three years, Government policy initiatives on infrastructure are likely to spawn a wealth of projects, which means the UK’s energy, utility and transport sectors are set for a period of signifi cant investment. These sponsored projects will not be before time and follow years of restriction, during which the appetite for expenditure has been

kept in check by the global fi nancial crisis.

I expect economies around Europe to continue to pick up, boosting tax receipts and improving public fi nances with governments looking to build on the momentum through investment in infrastructure, amongst other things.

The infrastructure boom will also be fuelled by existing policy on low carbon generation, necessitating fresh spend in the energy and utility sectors, as well as the perceived multiplier effects of centralised investment in major transport links.
