Automotive Castings to Scrape the Skies

Alongside this month’s New York International Auto Show, the 2015 Ford Mustang—and the hundreds of pounds of castings inside it—will celebrate its 50th

anniversary by visiting the observation deck on the 86th floor of the

Big Apple’s Empire State Building. Surprisingly enough, this won’t be the iconic muscle car’s first trip to such heights. A similar stunt was held in the same spot in 1965 with a prototype Mustang convertible.

Like its grandfather, the new Mustang model will be dismantled, cut into pieces and brought up to the observation deck by elevator. Ford’s techni- cal team plans to reassemble the car in just six hours, leaving it open to visitors April 16-17.
