needed to claim that they are biologically relics of the past. They are in fact equivalent to earlier stages in the ascent from the apes who have been preserved in isolated locations, preserved with those earlier levels of mental and moral development.”27

Biblical antiracism: not a convenient afterthought

It is not infrequently claimed that the antiracist stance of most modern creationism is a mere overlay to biblical Christianity, something conveniently ‘tacked on’ now that antiracism is fashionable, even ‘politically correct’.

So far from being the case, however, the Bible is intrinsically

antiracist. Especially so in view of its Genesis history of mankind—the one human family doctrine that forms the theme of this book. This has been made more than clear by the history of European racism already touched on, in particular the citations from Professor Fredrickson about this doctrine’s restraining influence. No wonder, then, that when Darwinism provided a seeming excuse for the removal of this restraint, racism exploded.

The writings of German zoology professor Ernst Haeckel (1834–1919) serve to further highlight both the racist impulses of the evolutionism of the day and the intrinsic antiracism of Genesis. Haeckel, who is now known to have fraudulently doctored drawings of embryos to promote belief in evolution,28 was Darwin’s chief evangelist on the European continent. His influence was huge, particularly in his own country of Germany.

Haeckel’s pro-evolution book The History of Creation (original

German: Natürliche Schöpfungsgeschichte) is heavily racist, and would be an embarrassment to evolutionists today. He divided

See creation.com/darwin-historians- not-misrepresented for the transcript in context. In the interests of total accuracy, especially in view of the allegations of misrepresentation, we chose not to edit the text, even where it is an obvious misspeak. 28. Unfortunately, some of these doctored drawings still appear in textbooks aimed at convincing people of the truth of evolution.
