THEM SPECIAL? Hammer Song heirloom cookie cut-
ters take the art of tinware to a new level. The heritage craft of tinsmith- ing is being kept alive by Bill and Betsy Cukla. Each cutter is made entirely by hand, using only 18th- and 19th-Century hand tools. The cutters are highly detailed and many have imprint lines on the interior that produce elaborate designs that you can decorate or not. The design can hold its own.
Highly collectable, Hammer Song tinware is in many museum collec- tions including the Smithsonian, the Museum of Folk Art and has been displayed at the White House.
Each Hammer Song cutter is
designed by Betsy Cukla, a trained botanical illustrator. She never uses magazine, TV or print sources for inspiration. Her belief is that once a designer looks at something that someone else has created, they have become influenced and a truly original cookie cutter can’t be cre- ated. Her unique designs are based on the things that she likes and there is always a story behind them.
