The Chapter Support Fund 8

The CCPA Board of Directors established a Chapter Support Fund in 2012. The cre- ation of this fund was the result of a discussion which occurred at a Chapter Presi- dents’ meetings, where some Chapter Presidents requested increased support from CCPA for Chapter initiatives.

The Chapter Support Fund provides for supportive funding from CCPA to Chapters to a maximum of $6,000 per annum for all requests from all chapters. Support is based on individual merit, and is pro-rated based on availability of support funds and funds raised directly from the Chapter for its project.

The Fund is administered through the National Office of CCPA. Application to the fund for use of the monies should be made by the President of the Chapter through the Chief Executive Officer of CCPA. Each application will be considered on its indi- vidual merit by the Board of Directors as to its applicability for funding.

In 2012, the Counsellor Educators Chapter applied for and received funding from the Chapter Support Fund. The funding was provided to assist in the development of the Canadian Handbook of Counselling and Psychotherapy. Over the winter of 2013 the money was used to hire a research assistant to help the editors to sur- vey the different types of handbooks already in print. A tentative list of topics and potential authors were also identified. Nick Gazzola will be the chief editor of the project and Marla Buchanan, Olga Sutherland, and Simon Nuttgens will be section editors.

Over the summer of 2013, the team developed the specifications for the book. In the Fall of 2013 potential authors will be sent an invitation to submit a chapter. A synopsis of each author’s chapter will be requested for the Fall and the draft of their manuscript by the Spring of 2014. When the book is complete CCPA will be publishing it.
