FIBRES AND CABLING Specialty Optical Fibre
LL-580 optical splicing and distribution enclosure
AFL has launched the LL- 580 optical splicing and distribution enclosure. The enclosure
addresses the need to patch, patch and splice, express cut/drop fibres and manage wavelengths (WDM or splitters) in a single enclosure. AFL says that, given its flexibility, the enclosure is an ideal fit for business service hand-offs, MDU distribution and connectivity, cellular backhaul and other commercial services that require weather-proof field connectivity. ‘Many weather-proof enclosures exist on the market today, but very few are specifically designed to house and protect optical components beyond a fusion splice or a simple adapter connection point,’ said Chuck Turner, product manager for AFL.

Polymicro Technologies, a subsidiary of Molex Incorporated, has extended its specialty optical fibre offering, with the introduction of FBPI optical fibre and Hollow Silica Wavelength fibre products. ‘Many spectroscopic applications require high performance optical fibres that transmit light over a broad spectrum,’ said Robert Dauphinais, business development manager, Polymicro Technologies. ‘Unlike standard optical fibres, which are limited by transmission spectral range, Polymicro’s proprietary optical fibre transmits a wider range of wavelengths with relative uniformity across the wavelength range.’
Optimised for near infrared (NIR) attenuation and ultraviolet (UV) solarisation resistance, to improve transmission over a wider spectral range, Polymicro’s silica-based FBPI optical fibre delivers panoramic spectroscopy and sensor analysis. Available in a range of core diameters from 50- 600μm, broad spectrum FBPI optical fibre with a low -OH pure silica core demonstrates significantly reduced content of UV defects and other UV absorption centres. In the near-infrared (NIR) wavelength region to beyond 2100nm, Polymicro FBPI fibre attenuation is equivalent to standard NIR

One-Click Cleaner MPO Fujikura Europe has launched its new One-Click Cleaner MPO, designed for cleaning MPO/MTP connectors and adapter mounted MPO/MTP connectors that are widely used in data centres and also in some telco-operated infrastructures. The company says the product cleans MPO/ MTP connector end-faces that have been exposed to loose contaminants, such as dirt and oil from an installer’s fingers. With just one action it is able to clean a variety of fibre counts up to 48 fibre MPO/MTP end faces and is capable of providing over 500 cleans per unit, says Fujikura. ‘This new tool will make the task of cleaning these abundant connectors easier and quicker with improved functionality, and it will keep the

fibres having a low-OH silica core and F-doped cladding. Comparable to solarisation properties of standard UV optimised high -OH fibres with high radiation resistance, FBPI fibre features UV transmission down to 200nm.

cost per clean down and allow for in-situ cleans too, which some other cleaners are not able to do,’ said Brian Leonard, European product manager for connectivity.
‘This is the first MPO device in the Fujikura One Click Cleaner range and we created it primarily to service the data centre market.’
The cleaner is compliant with the EU/95/2002/
EC directive (RoHS) since it is made of environmentally friendly materials. An adapter/ dust cap is also supplied with the product for cleaning MPO/MTP connector plugs as well as the connectors themselves.
