ECONOMIC CATALYSTS AVIATION SOLUTIONS TO YTZ v3 1504 A poll of Torontonians found

that 69% believe that the airport is an economic engine of the city and 87% feel it is

a valuable asset

Since then, BBTCA has experienced annual growth of 30-35%, and in 2013 we expect to welcome 2.2 million passengers.

Our success is partly down to the airport’s magnificent location, minutes from the downtown core and financial district. We can process passengers very quickly, and being able to leave your office and go through a highly efficient

airport without wasting any time is a major draw.

However, that exponential year-on-year growth meant that we had to critically assess how people get to and from the airport. Today, the only access to BBTCA is by ferry over a 400ft water channel. The 90-second trip provides one of the most breathtaking views of the downtown core, but having one access route means that

people arrive, depart and need to be processed at the same time. To improve passenger flow and enhance the overall experience of travelling through BBTCA, Toronto Port Authority is building a pedestrian tunnel under the channel that will allow people to walk to and from the airport from mid-2014. Of course, conducting a major infrastructure project while keeping the airport open and

fully operational does present a challenge, but we’ve found the project has really captured the imagination of Torontonians.

We’ll continue investing to make BBTCA the airport of choice for business and leisure travellers alike, with quick processing times and exceptional customer service. Our aim is not for it to be the biggest airport, but the best of its size in the world.
