Unitrio Technology Limited WINNER:

Metee Anivat CEO Profile...

Mr. Metee Anivat is the eldest son of Mr. Montri Anivat, the founder of Unitrio Technology Limited. He started his career at Unitrio right after his graduation in Bachelor of Engineering from Chiangmai University in 1992. He had worked though the career path in different departments of the company till 1996, when he went to USA to study at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and earned his MBA degree in International Business. He spent one more year to explore more interesting subjects at the same university and earned another master degree, MS.BA., in 1998.

He was back to Unitrio as a Managing Director in 1998, after the company was hit badly financial crisis. In 1997, Thai currency dropped over 50% from the initial value in such a very short period of time. Because the main business of Unitrio depended on importing goods from Europe, the better the business was, the severe the damages on business were. In 2003, to survive from big amount of debt caused purely by exchange rate loss, Anivat family agreed to have a French UPS supplier put significant investment in the company.

After 5 years of continuous growth, the French shareholder decided to establish its own subsidiary and separate from Unitrio in 2008 to focus solely on UPS business. The initial shareholders continued the business to focus on building data center facilities. The business has been growing continuously in both sales and profit.

In 2010, Abraaj, through its South East Asia Fund, put their investment in Unitrio. The investment in Unitrio was predicated on the increasing demand within Thailand for high quality data centers due to

rapidly growing internet penetration rates, the proliferation of mobile and other devices, increasing virtualization of IT infrastructure, and the adoption of cloud computing in the public and private sectors, factors that are leading to substantially greater requirements for data hosting and storage capacity across the country.

While the ICT sector has developed significantly over the past two years, substantial growth remains with internet penetration in Thailand currently at 30%, which is substantially below penetration rates of greater than 70% in more developed markets. Recent floods in Thailand have also shown the need for additional back-up facilities across the country with domestic service providers seeking to expand and diversify their offerings. Within an ASEAN context, the growth expected in Thailand is second only to Indonesia, with the amount of data center space expected to almost double and data center revenues expected to grow by over three times by 2015.

Mr. Anivat was promoted as a CEO in 2012 at the same time the shareholders were approached by NTT Facilities (NTTF), a member of the Japanese Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), which provides comprehensive engineering services for data centers, telecommunications, commercial buildings and related facilities, to acquires significant shares in Unitrio. He and other key management see that being a part of NTTF will be beneficial to Unitrio, because NTTF has advance knowledge in date center design and construction that can help Unitrio compete at the same level as other global players. NTTF can also help the company expand

businesses to Japanese corporations in Thailand and neighbors. Financial strength of NTTF can also help Unitrio expand the business to another level. The deal was completed in April 2013 when NTTF hold 49% shares in Unitrio.

Unitrio was founded in 1980 by a group of engineers and businessmen involving with power distribution system. Back then, they found that instability of electricity in Thailand had significant effect in Thailand economy. At that initial stage, Unitrio introduced UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) to banks, firms, and government agencies.

At present, Unitrio Technology offers turnkey solutions for Data Center and Telecommunications facilities following international standard. We also provide superior after sales services for Power Quality Solutions, Cooling Solutions for data center and medical equipment, and Fire and Security system.
