PROJECT | 15 Head to a festival
The last weekend in August is also the last bank holiday of the summer, so there should be plenty of events going on all over the country – check with tourist information to see what’s going on near you.
Music festivals, country fairs, folk festivals and the like will be taking place and are all worth visiting with a camera. Wherever you choose to go, you could try the candid approach, photographing people taking part in activities, or simply try to capture the essence of the event by photographing all the different aspects from details to general views – in daylight and then the evening, particularly if light shows are on offer. Either way, a PEN is perfect, being both small and portable.
Get on the web
Towards the end of August and in early September, gardens start to get populated by garden spiders sitting in webs. The trick is to try and find a web with a plain, neutral-coloured background that won’t distract. If you can’t find one, try putting a piece of card behind the web – which is exactly what I did here – but be careful not to disturb or damage the web in any way. A lens such as the M.Zuiko 60mm f/2.8 Macro is the ideal tool for the job.
