With the added risk to patients of heathcare acquired infections like MRSA, MITIE has focused on investing in new technology and cleaning equipment, performance monitoring, training, and infection control to ensure that high standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained. Pauline Lewin, Chief of Infrastructure and Development for Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust said: “The cleanliness of our hospitals is something which patients and visitors notice straightaway and, quite rightly, we are judged on our performance in this respect. “It’s really encouraging to see the AHCP recognise the joint efforts from our staff at the Trust and the MITIE team. We hope this, along with the fantastic survey results, will help reassure patients about the standards they can expect when coming into one of our hospitals.” Martyn Freeman, managing director of MITIE’s Facilities Management business, said: “We’re proud to have built up an award-winning partnership with Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust. Over the last seven years we’ve continually challenged our teams to innovate, and we look forward to working further with the Trust in delivering a world-class service.”

The GSI has established partnerships with business, not-for-profit organisations, the UK Government, the EU Commission and the United Nations, as well as participating in UK research council-funded projects. Dr Alison Greig, Director of Education for Sustainable Development, said: “This has provided us with an opportunity to showcase our work on an international stage. This Excellence in Integration award also provides a strong platform for us to develop further.” The awards are open to any college or university

Other awards were won this year by the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), Zhejiang University (China), Chatham University (United States) and Lappeenranta University of Technology (Finland).
