Life Beneath the Waves

You’ll have myriad opportunities to experience the underwater wonders of the South Seas all along your way. We provide complimentary snorkeling equipment to all guests on every departure, allowing you to peer at delicate coral reefs and their colorful inhabitants at our private retreats and on a wide range of shore excursions.

Onboard Watersports Marina Guests of Te Gauguin also enjoy the complimentary use of the ship’s onboard watersports marina and benefit from the expert assistance of its staff. Te marina is fully equipped with kayaks and windsurfers that you are welcome to use in many ports. And try your hand at the world’s fastest-growing watersport, paddleboarding—it’s like surfing without the waves. You are also invited to board a Zodiac® for an optional SCUBA adventure. Te Gauguin’s SCUBA excursions are designed for all levels of experience, and we are the only luxury ship in the French Polynesian islands to offer onboard refresher courses, as well as PADI certification for novices.

Jean-Michel Cousteau Paul Gauguin Cruises is proud of our 15-year friendship with famed oceanographer and environmental advocate, Jean-Michel Cousteau. Mr. Cousteau will join us on March 12, 2014, sailing to the Society Islands & Tuamotus, the June 14, 2014, Fiji to Australia sailing, the August 30, 2014, sailing to Fiji, Tonga, Cook & Society Islands, and the October 25, 2014, sailing to the Marquesas, Tuamotus & Society Islands. As our special guest, he will offer a series of lectures with videos of his work in the world’s oceans, as well as accompany several dives from the ship. Perhaps you will chat with him about the Ocean Futures Society, the organization he founded in 1999 to inspire and educate people throughout the world to act responsibly for the protection of global oceans.

Youth Program On holiday sailings in December, The Gauguin will again offer a youth program designed to teach young travelers (ages 9-17) the extraordinary wonders of French Polynesia through direct, hands-on, interactive learning. This program will be available for a nominal fee of $299 per child.
