IN CLOSING... 48 Q DIVERSITY & THE BAR® JULY/AUGUST 2013
Steve Zack is a specialist in civil trial law. He has represented Florida’s former Governor and U.S. Senator Bob Graham as general counsel; the Florida Senate; the Florida Department of Professional Regulation; national clients such as Philip Morris and the National Geographic Society; and former Vice President Al Gore in the trial of Bush v. Gore.
Why did you become a lawyer? Specifi cally, why did you focus on corporate litigation?
As a refugee of the Fidel Castro regime, I saw what happened when rights were taken away and liberties were lost. It was a helpless feeling I never wanted to experience again and from which I wanted to protect my loved ones. I am a trial lawyer, not a corporate lawyer, but I litigate cases on behalf of and against, many major corporations.
What was your biggest mistake and what did you learn from it?
I believe that as you get older you get better at listen- ing to and taking the advice of others. I have been fortunate to acquire this gift with the benefi t of time.
