Known for its tightly contested road races, featuring mixed fields of cars over and under two liters, the Sports
Car Club of America (SCCA) Trans Am racing series pitted large grids of closely matched coupes that resem- bled production models. Trans Am rac- ing epitomized the “Race on Sunday, sell on Monday” ideology.
The V-8 pony cars were immensely popu- lar, so automakers threw their best engi- neering and racing experts into the fray
Raced in Europe in 1969 by Peter Reinhart; won 18 of 20 races.
New owner Malcom Gartland and driver Brian Muir won the Group 2 championship in 1970–71.
Vintage raced by Tom Armstrong through 2009; won “Most Outstanding Race Car” designation at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance in 2008.
Raced by Don Lee in the Historic Trans Am series in 2010-12.
Featured at the Petersen Automo- tive Museum and in Mark Donohue Reunion events.
Presently owned by Bill Bryan; dis- played at Amelia Island in 2013 as a tribute to Sam Posey.
