The 2013 Flood Management Tour


With the Sacramento Valley and Delta having the highest risk for flooding in the country, flood management continues to be a critical issue. This tour will visit flood control s tructures that have protected the Sacramento area for the last 80 years, as well as explore new flood control planning for the Central Valley, floodplain development and levee stability and maintenance issues. The tour will also cover the issue of urban and non-urban levees and new approaches to levee safety and regulations.


This two-day, one-night tour begins at the American River and travels along the Bear, Feather and Sacramento rivers into the Delta to view Sacramento’s flood management system. New Layperson’s Guide to IRWM Copies of the Water Education Foundation’s new Layperson’s Guide to Integrated Regional Water Management are now available. Professor Joseph Sax to Speak April 30


Professor Joseph Sax, distinguished member of the faculty of UC Berkeley Law School and former counselor to the U.S. Secretary of the Interior, will deliver the 2013 Anne J. Schneider Foundation lecture April 30 at the Crocker Museum in Sacramento. Schneider, a partner at the fi rm of Ellison, Schneider & Harris and one of California’s foremost water law attorneys, passed away in 2010 at the age of 63. As with the inaugural lecture last year, this year’s lecture is in support of efforts to encourage professional and personal commitment to water law and policy and the conservation of our special landscapes, in memory of Anne Schneider’s lifelong devotion to these areas. Audience discussion will follow Professor Sax’s prepared remarks.
