ranian-Canadian Londoner Amirali Shahrestani was snapped up by Lazarus last year, and fast-tracked through Crosstown bootcamp.


Clearly he knew he was onto something. His debut EP ‘Beautiful World’ said it all, the title track a lush, deep disco anthem, while follow up ‘Just An Illusion’ flexed a different muscle, all spooky tech-house. His album, ‘In Time’, lived up to the promise too, a mash of languid downtempo delightfulness, the odd trip to the danceloor and a swathe of quirky alt. electro-pop indebted to his idols, the likes of Depeche Mode and Radiohead. And all of this released in the same year.Dazzling.

enny Glasgow and Jonny White — bosses of No. 19 Music — were faces on the Toronto house and techno scene long before they


got together as Art Department. It was only in 2009 when Lazarus asked the pair to do a mix of Riz MC’s ‘Don’t Sleep’ that it occurred to them that they should get together. A monster was spawned. Since


then, they debuted their first album, ‘The Drawing Board’, on Crosstown, and a clutch of essential singles, including the stunning ‘We Call Love’, with Soul Clap and Osunlade, and ‘Living The Life’ with the one-and- only Seth Troxler. They’re now pretty much unstoppable.

he Venezuelan capital of Caracas has yet to produce a world-class electronic act. Enter, then, Fur Coat to sort that out. The


spectacularly-named Israel Sunshine and Sergio Munoz — the latter formerly known as Delete — met at a house party in their hometown, and through a shared love of Moodymann and Moroder, realized they were kindred spirits. Larazus snapped the pair up in 2010, charging them with a remix of label cohort Russ Yallop, with their own solo release, the devastating ‘Space Ballad’, emerging with a solid mix from Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs soon after. After their infamous ‘You and I’ cut, with its Cari Golden-sung “cocaine and ketamine” hook, they hit paydirt, and the subsequent ‘Mind Over Matter’ album has picked up props all over.
