REAL LIFE HOLIDAY TALES

We asked for your real life holiday stories, and we picked this one because we’re suckers for a happy ending, thanks for sending all your stories to us - and a special big thanks to the Smith family! PETRA’S STORY

Orlando has always been a dream holiday destination for me since I was a child, and we were looking forward so much to going back for the fi rst time in 7 years.

It was very different to a UK hospital! I was given a menu that looked just like one from a restaurant to order my food from and it was brought to me by a man wearing a suit and dickie bow tie! When it happened I knew that the

holiday was over, and that Cass, our daughter, would be too worried to enjoy herself, so it was terrible.

“I was over the moon!”

I kept a weekly

countdown to the holiday on my calendar! We fi nally arrived and had been in Orlando a week out of the two when I started to be physically sick and fainted several times. My husband, Ryan, called for a doctor to come to the hotel. He diagnosed appendicitis and said that I should go to hospital straight away. I was admitted about 11pm

“7am the

next morning they were operating on my

appendix” After we got home the

thought of being able to go back hadn’t even crossed my mind. Even though we managed to get a little money back from the insurance I knew it would take us years of hard saving to go again. Then one day Ryan surprised me with an envelope of cash that he had been secretly saving. He told me it was to take me away to Vegas for a weekend for my 40th birthday but could go towards going back to Florida if I prefered.

Just to have the opportunity to do it again gave me a great appreciation of the holiday and the kindness, love and generosity of my family. The highlight for me was my birthday treat from my sister Andi and her partner Paul, who took us all to the Spirit of Aloha dinner show at Disneys stunningly beautiful Polynesian Resort, it was an experience that won’t easily be topped and never forgotten.

HIP HIP HOORAY!

The Smith family got the holiday of their dreams in the end,

but what an adventure on the way !

CASSIDY’S STORY

I had been to Florida before but I was only 4 so couldn’t remember much. I was looking forward to it loads, I was bigger this time so I could go on more rides. When my mum started to feel unwell I was scared because I didn’t know what to do. I ended up crying behind the bed. At the time I didnt know what appendicitis was so I just thought she was ill. I stayed with Auntie Andi and

Uncle Paul but rarely went to the parks because I was too sad and worried for mum. Before she was ill it was really fun, I really enjoyed The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Islands of Adventure, but then it didn’t feel like a holiday at all -

“it was like a bad dream really”

I was ecstatic when I heard we

were going back, I just couldn’t wait but was nervous of whether something might go wrong again! I enjoyed Harry Potter land for the second time because it felt like the fi rst time wasn’t enough!

“But it was even better when

all of us were together and

had great fun!”
