DSB and AnsaldoBreda reach agreement on IC4 delivery D

have agreed a final delivery schedule for the troubled IC2 and IC4 inter-city dmu fleets, which were ordered as long ago as 2000 and should have entered service in 2003. Under the terms of the deal, which is the result of almost a year of negotiations, AnsaldoBreda must deliver all remaining IC4s by September 2013 and IC2s by October 2013. DSB will be allowed to cancel orders for any sets which are not delivered before the deadlines. DSB says it has yet to accept 22 IC4s and 14 IC2s. According to AnsaldoBreda, 70 of the 83

Saudi Arabia


The Saudi Public Investment Fund has awarded Fluor, United States, a Riyals 270m ($US 72m) seven-year contract to manage construction and commissioning of the Landbridge from Jeddah to Riyadh. The 958km line will reduce freight transit times between Jeddah and Dammam to around 18 hours, compared with 5-7 days for the current sea voyage.


Spain


After 47 years of operations, metre-gauge railway authority Feve ceased to exist on December 31. Feve’s workforce and assets have been split between Renfe and Adif.


UAE


The first batch from an order for 240 wagons being supplied by CSR, China, to Etihad Rail arrived in Abu Dhabi’s port of Mina Zayed at the end of December. The wagons will be used to transport sulphur on the 264km Shah - Habshan - Ruwais heavy-haul line.


United States


Canadian National (CN) has completed the merger of the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway (EJ&E) into its Wisconsin Central subsidiary. CN says the merger of the two railways, which intersect at Leithton Junction north of Chicago, will simplify its corporate structure and operations in the United States.


Uruguay


Italian premier opens rebuilt Turin Porta Susa station: Italy’s prime minister Mr Mario Monti officially inaugurated Turin Porta Susa station on January 14 marking completion of a project to rebuild and expand the station to provide the city with a high-speed rail hub. The station, which will be served by both Trenitalia and NTV high-speed services as well as conventional trains, is covered by a spectacular 386m-long and 30m-wide glass and steel roof. The station features an eco-friendly heating and ventilation system.

EuskoTren has undertaken studies showing that its investment plan would be profitable. IRJ
