“In 1985, I was employed as a senior site manager on a major section of the refurbishment of the Grand Hotel in Brighton. This was an interesting and high- profile project, due to the hotel having been bombed by the IRA in an attempt to kill Margaret Thatcher and other senior members of the Tory Party. “In the early 1990s, as a senior


project manager with Wimpey Construction, I was responsible for several superstore projects for J Sainsbury, employing innovative construction techniques, and it resulted in me becoming runner up in the Construction Industry Young Achiever of the Year Award. “In the mid 1990s, I was


employed as coordination manager for the construction of the runways and taxiways for the new airport at Chek Lap Kok Island, Hong Kong. I left this

Gavin Maxwell-Hart FCIOB Gavin graduated from Southampton University with a degree in civil engineering and following VSO in East Africa, completed his training with Costain Civil Engineering to become a Chartered Engineer. “I have been a director since 1984 with A E Farr, Wimpey Engineering and Construction, Tarmac International and Laing O’Rourke working worldwide on projects such as power stations, oil and gas facilities, process and
