HEAD TO HEAD
I have had fun giving input into my Asics clothing. I really like all the colours and styles they have created so I have not had to change anything. I also love the direction of the clothing I will be wearing next year!
Do you have any involvement in the kit’s development?
I just let them know what materials I like, the shape of the styles and how they fit. It’s very nice since the clothes all fit perfectly every time.
people thought of me as a doubles player, which was never the case. I like competing in both doubles and singles, but singles will always be my focus.
And do you have a favourite partner to play with, male or female?
I had some great success with Lisa Raymond but generally as long as my partner competes hard and has some fun it doesn’t matter; it is always nice to play.
How much input do you get with Asics over the kit you wear?
After her Wimbledon win, John McEnroe called Serena Williams the best female player of all time – would you agree with that?
There are so many great players throughout history that I don’t really like to name the best, as they are all great. In terms of Serena, she is certainly right up there and a fantastic athlete.
Which player/s did you enjoy watching growing up?
There were two I loved, Steffi Graf and Monica Seles.
Ladies tennis seems to be very competi- tive at the moment, with plenty vying for Slam titles, is that exciting for the
players? A sign of its quality perhaps?
There are a lot of great players at the moment vying for titles which it very interesting and competitive at the top. I believe it creates more excitement not knowing who will win. I think it goes to show that there is great depth in women’s tennis at the moment.
Beyond this summer, what are your aims for 2013?
I just want to stay healthy and maintain a high level of play throughout the year. I feel if I can do this I will continue to be dangerous in the big tournaments.

Toughest opponent faced? Many tough ones, but I’m yet to beat Azarenka
Any pre-match superstitions? I try not to be superstitious but I do warm up in a similar fashion prior to each match, more routine than superstition
