Data Deduplication Reduces the Impact One for All and All for One
With the ability to decrease redundancy and retain more information on disk, data deduplication continues to attract tremendous interest as storage requirements continue to increase. It works by examining the fi le stream as it arrives at the storage appliance, checking for blocks of data that are identical, and removing redundant copies. If duplicate data is found, a pointer is established that references the original information as opposed to actually storing the duplicate blocks—removing or “de-duplicating” the redundant data from the volume.
