“EARNINGS in the second quarter of 2012 were driven by the strength and resilience of our business model, as well as our ability to leverage the scale and efficiencies inherent in our operations,” explains William Flynn, president and CEO of Atlas Air Worldwide (AAWW), parent company of Atlas Air and Titan Aviation Leasing and the majority shareholder of Polar Air Cargo. AAWW’s revenue reached

US$424.7 million, also up signficantly on the same three months of 2011. Flynn commented: “Our new 747-8F aircraft, which are

providing efficient, wide-body, long-haul cargo service for our customers, supported volumes and profitability in our core ACMI (aircraft, crew, mainte- nance and insurance) business during the quarter.” Atlas’s commercial charter

business also saw increased volumes and profitability, which – the company said – reflected both the scale and flexibility of its operations. The retirement of older

B747-200 freighters also eased the company’s cost burden. “During the past several

years, we have significantly transformed our business model,” Flynn declared.

“We have aggressively man-

aged and modernised our fleet, developed and grown our express network ACMI service for DHL Express, and added our new 747-8F aircraft.

“Together, our transformed

business model and our initia- tives are enabling us to generate additional earnings and cash flow while maintain- ing a solid balance sheet.”
